This archive report was first published on 7 June 2020.

On June 3, a Tanzanian vessel, Haina Hollo, drifted into Kenyan waters after losing propulsion power and being overpowered by strong winds.

The vessel, registered in Tanzania, had departed Tanga for Pemba on June 2 with a cargo of 700 logs of eucalyptus.

Kenyan fishermen rescued the seven crew members at Mtwapa Beach, and a multiagency team attended to them, assisted by the BMU.

The crew were weak and exhausted, and were transferred to Kilifi for quarantine, where they are currently being held.

The Kenya Maritime Authority has notified the Tanzanian Maritime Authority and the Consulate in Mombasa of the incident.

The vessel remains in the reef, and the owner is making arrangements for tow and salvage.
