Police Officer Who Served as President Kibaki's Escort Dies

Commissioner of Police Wachira Mathenge, a dedicated and exceptional officer, has passed away. He served as President Mwai Kibaki's escort and was a respected member of the police force.

According to a police report filed at Chaka Police Post in Nyeri County, Mathenge collapsed abruptly in his house in Chaka on Friday, June 5, 2020, at 9pm. He was declared dead on arrival at Outspan Hospital in Nyeri County.

The police report stated that Mathenge's body was later transferred to the hospital's mortuary. A firearm, an Austria with serial number 884, and 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from his house and handed over to Narumoru Police Station.

Deputy President William Ruto mourned Mathenge's death, describing him as a dependable and approachable officer who took pride in his work. Ruto expressed his condolences to Mathenge's family, friends, and the wider police fraternity.
