June 7, 2020 - President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation on Saturday, June 6, amidst growing anxiety among Kenyans.

As the country awaited his address, many took to social media to express their wishes, with some even creating humorous memes.

However, President Kenyatta was not amused, saying, "I have seen various memes doing the rounds on social media on Independence Day and Freedom Day, this is not about independence, this is a matter of life, we are not doing this to hurt anyone but to ensure we protect the lives of Kenyans."

He went on to explain that the extended guidelines, which include a 30-day dusk-to-dawn curfew, cessation of movement into and out of Nairobi Metropolitan area, Mombasa, and Mandera, and a ban on all forms of gatherings, including political meetings, are necessary to protect Kenyans.

Bars will remain closed for the entire period, and the curfew will start from 9 pm to 4 am to enable businesses to thrive for more hours.

President Kenyatta acknowledged the hard times Kenyans are going through and assured that his government has no intentions to disappoint and hurt Kenyans.

He maintained that opening up the economy would have a long-term impact on the country and that experts have warned that even if they think they are rescuing the economy, in the end, the economy will remain sabotaged.
