President Uhuru Kenyatta's speech yesterday left many Kenyans disappointed as he announced that the COVID-19 restrictions would not be eased immediately.

For weeks, social media had been filled with memes and jokes about the impending 'freedom' that would come with the lifting of the cessation of movement and curfew.

People were eagerly waiting to resume their normal lives, including traveling to see their loved ones, going out at night, and enjoying their favorite drinks.

However, the President's speech deflated these hopes, stating that the country was not yet ready to ease the regulations.

He cited the importance of staying alive over having a few days of leisure and dying, which left many Kenyans disappointed.

While the President did announce an extension of the curfew hours, pushing it to 9pm in the evening to 4am, it was not the 'freedom' that many had been hoping for.

As one Twitter user, George Wanjohi, joked, 'All is not lost. We can still eat mutura which is definitely tastier when eaten in the dark. 9pm is better than 7pm.'
