On 6 June, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna raised concerns that Deputy President William Ruto may be barred from competing for the top seat in the next general polls election due to his alleged involvement in a traditional ritual.

According to Sifuna, the late Musikari Kombo was banned from participating in elections for five years by Kenyan courts after he was allegedly involved in a traditional cleansing ceremony.

It has been reported that Ruto secretly travelled to Kipsirwo village, Nandi County on 5 May for a traditional ritual ceremony overseen by the Nandi Laibons Council of Elders.

The objective of the traditional practice was believed to be protecting the DP from any harm.

“The Kenyan courts barred Hon. Musikari Kombo from participating in elections for 5 years for a “cleansing” ceremony akin to the one DP Ruto participated in. What you do with this information is up to you,” Sifuna stated.

Kenyan social media users joined the discussion, with the majority disagreeing with Sifuna.
