Kenya has recorded 126 new Covid-19 cases from 3,632 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of positive cases to 2,600.
According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the new cases are distributed across various counties, with Mombasa recording 56 cases, Busia 54, Nairobi 8, Migori 3, and one case each in Machakos, Kisumu, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, and Kajiado.
Breaking down the cases by sub-county, Mombasa has 18 cases in Mvita, 15 in Nyali, 7 in Kisauni, 7 in Jomvu, 6 in Likoni, and 3 in Changamwe. Busia has 46 cases in Malaba POE, 7 in Busia POE, and 1 in Alupe quarantine.
Notably, all except one of the cases in Busia are of truck drivers.
The cases in Nairobi are spread across Kibra, Makadara, Mathare, Langata, Roysambu, and Kasarani. In Migori, the cases are in Kuria West and Kuria East.
Other counties with single cases include Machakos, Kisumu, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, and Kajiado.
The age range of the new cases is one year to 76 years, with 28 females and 98 males.
Kenya also recorded the highest number of recoveries, with 63 people discharged from hospital after recovering from Covid-19, bringing the cumulative number of discharges to 706.
Healthcare workers have been praised for their efforts in containing the pandemic, with Kagwe saying, 'This is an achievement that could not have been possible, without the zeal and devotion to duty by our healthcare workers. We salute you.'
Four more patients have died, bringing the total number of deaths to 83.
CS Kagwe urged people to continue observing containment measures, including hand washing, social distancing, and wearing face masks.
Today marks day 86 since Kenya reported its first Coronavirus case, with the national effort focused on upgrading healthcare systems and increasing testing capacity.
