On June 6, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation, outlining measures to ease the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on the economy and education sector.

As part of these measures, the Ministry of Education was directed to announce a new school calendar by mid-August, allowing for the resumption of education from 1st September.

The Ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, is also expected to issue and publicize guidelines for a gradual and progressive return to normalcy in the education sector by the third term.

Additionally, President Kenyatta directed the Ministries of Interior and Health to establish an inter-faith council within seven days to work out modalities and protocols for the re-opening of places of worship.

However, the ban on all forms of gatherings, including political gatherings and social gatherings, has been extended for a further 30 days.

The ban on international travel restrictions has also been extended, but the President has directed the Ministry of Transport to engage with key stakeholders and develop protocols for the resumption of local air travel.

President Kenyatta emphasized the government's efforts to protect the economy, citing the injection of Ksh 216 billion through tax refunds, rebates, and waivers, as well as the rollout of Ksh 53.7 billion under the 8-point stimulus package.

He also announced that modalities for injecting Ksh 2 billion into the hotel industry will be shared next week.
