On June 6, 2020, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei was involved in a horrific car accident on the Kapsabet – Eldoret Highway.

According to reports, Cherargei's vehicle rolled several times at around 9:30 PM while he was allegedly traveling from Nandi, where he had met Deputy President William Ruto, to his Eldoret home.

Fortunately, a local Samaritan rescued Cherargei and took him to a hospital in Eldoret town, where he was treated for minor injuries and allowed to return home.

Cherargei has since taken to social media to thank those who wished him a quick recovery, saying 'Safe & sound. God bless you all. Sanitize Stay home stay safe. #mtetezi Blessed sabbath'.

Cherargei's accident has sparked debate on social media, with some questioning why he was out past the dusk to dawn curfew hours. Others have pointed out that as a vocal supporter of Deputy President William Ruto, Cherargei may have been considered an essential service provider.

It's worth noting that Cherargei was dewhipped as the Chair for the Senate Committee on Legal Affairs last month and declined to take another role from the party.
