Published on June 6, 2020, a tender for the construction of the Koru-Soin Dam has been advertised by the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority, sparking hope for a lasting solution to the flooding in the Nyando basin.

The dam, which was initiated in the 1970s but stalled due to a misunderstanding between locals and implementers, will provide 72,000 cubic meters of water for domestic and commercial use, as well as generate 2.5 Mega Watts of hydropower.

According to the advertisement, the project will be implemented in two phases, with the construction work placed on an open international tender and the supervision of the works reserved for Kenyan companies.

Acting CEO Sharon Obonyo signed the advert, which requires bidders to present their tender documents before July 20.
