On June 4, 2020, Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o held a meeting with five MPs from the county to discuss details about the road.
However, the meeting turned sour when Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir accused the governor of misleading the public on the planned works on the road.
Shabbir, a member of the Finance Committee in the National Assembly, said there was no budget allocation for the road in the coming financial year as the governor had claimed.
The governor had earlier said he had reached an agreement with the Kenya National Highway Authority (Kenha) to begin constructing the road.
Shabbir termed Nyong'o's remarks 'roadside declarations', implying that they were empty promises.
