On May 12, 2020, a post-mortem exam was conducted on Tecra Muigai at Nairobi's Lee Funeral Home, which showed that the injuries she suffered were consistent with a fall down a staircase.
However, the family of Tecra Muigai has termed the outcome inconclusive and demanded further analysis, which involves toxicology tests to determine whether she could have been poisoned.
According to Tecra's boyfriend, Omar Lali, the police have been dragging their feet in the investigation, and he has questioned the pace of the inquiry.
Through his lawyer, Yusuf Abubakar, Mr Lali accused Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives of not doing independent investigations and of deliberately delaying the case.
Mr Abubakar stated that the police had not shared the post-mortem results with the defence, and that they had not used the advanced technology available to conduct toxicology tests in a few days.
He also claimed that the police had not shared the post-mortem results with the defence, and that they had not used the advanced technology available to conduct toxicology tests in a few days.
The police, however, insist that Omar Lali has a case to answer, with sources telling the Saturday Nation that they plan to charge him with murder.
Tecra Muigai fell from the stairs in a private house in Shella on Lamu Island where she was staying with Mr Lali, and she was later airlifted to Nairobi for treatment but succumbed to her injuries.
