On June 1, a homeless man in Mathare, known as Vaite, was shot dead by a policeman while walking home. This incident is just one of the many cases of police brutality in Kenya, with 16 people shot dead every month, according to the Deadly Force database.
Despite the widespread outrage over the death of George Floyd in the US, Kenyans seem to be apathetic about similar incidents at home. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) reported that in enforcing the curfew, the police have killed 15 people and injured 31.
