On March 23, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed ordered the closure of public sporting facilities and the suspension of sports events in Kenya, following the country's first reported case of Covid-19 on March 13.

Now, the Ministry of Sport is preparing to resume play, with a stakeholder committee set to be established to develop procedures for a safe return to action.

According to Chief Administrative Secretary Hassan Noor Hassan, most sportsmen and women are eager to resume training, but only after consultation with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.

“CS Amina will set up the committee that will explore the possibilities and ways that will set our sportsmen and women back on track, ring, swimming pool among other sporting venues,” said Hassan.

However, Hassan urged athletes to be patient, prioritizing their health and the safety of their families during this time.

He made these remarks at the Nyayo National Stadium on Friday, while briefing the media on the disbursement of the Covid-19 stimulus package.
