Kenya's COVID-19 Cases Rise to 2,474 After 134 New Infections

Kenya has reported 134 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 2,474, following the testing of 3,177 samples in the last 24 hours.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, the new patients consist of 131 Kenyans and 3 foreign nationals, aged between 6-70 years, with 98 males and 36 females.

The new cases are distributed across various counties, with Mombasa reporting 67 cases, Nairobi reporting 31 cases, and other counties reporting smaller numbers of cases.

Dr. Mwangangi also reported that 51 more patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 643, and unfortunately, one patient died of COVID-19, raising the total number of fatalities to 79.

Dr. Mwangangi emphasized the importance of county-level preparedness in the fight against the pandemic, urging counties to utilize the Ksh.5 billion disbursed to them to upgrade their health facilities in readiness to manage COVID-19 cases.
