As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread in Kenya, President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to address the nation on Saturday, June 6, 2020, with new directives to curb the spread of the virus.

According to sources, Uhuru will extend the cessation of movement for at least another 21 days, with the curfew also being extended, but with reduced hours from 10pm to 5am.

Uhuru had previously hinted at reopening the economy in three weeks, but experts have warned that this could lead to a spike in COVID-19 cases, which currently stand at 2,474, with over 1,000 cases confirmed in the past two weeks alone.

Despite the warnings, Uhuru's advisors are reportedly of the view that the protocols in place should be retained, with some adjustments to the curfew hours.

Uhuru has insisted on the need to reopen the economy to cushion Kenyans from the tough financial conditions they are facing, with over 70% of families losing their livelihoods.
