On June 5, 2020, a funeral in Mukurweini, Nyeri County, drew attention for its large attendance, with over 400 people gathering to pay their respects to a retired teacher.

The event, held at Mutwewathi Primary School grounds, was attended by Health Ministry Director General Patrick Amoth, who represented Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, as well as Mukurweini MP Anthony Kiai and Nyeri County Assembly Speaker John Kaguchia.

Despite the government's regulations limiting social gatherings to 15 close relatives, the funeral proceeded with a large crowd, raising questions about the enforcement of Covid-19 prevention protocols.

Journalists from the Daily Nation and NTV were roughed up by hired goons for taking photos and recording proceedings, highlighting the challenges faced by the media in reporting on government actions.

As the government continues to enforce its directives, incidents like these raise concerns about the application of double standards in the enforcement of Covid-19 prevention protocols.
