Published on June 5, 2020, Nairobi — The leadership crisis in FORD-Kenya party escalated on Friday after the faction that ousted Moses Wetangula as the Party Leader re-filed the contested leadership changes at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties.
FORD-Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu alleged that Wetangula's group had resorted to intimidating some members of the National Executive Council (NEC) who supported the leadership changes made on May 31.
Simiyu accused Wetangula of sending threatening messages to party members in an attempt to coerce them into signing affidavits denouncing their support for his ouster.
"Our colleagues are sending intimidating statements and threats to NEC members who supported the party's leadership changes," Simiyu said.
Wetangula has remained adamant about retaining his position, insisting that his ouster was illegally orchestrated.
He suspended Simiyu and Kanduyi lawmaker Wafula Wamunyinyi from their party positions, accusing them of orchestrating his removal.
Political Parties Registrar Anne Nderitu is expected to review statutory documents filed by opposing camps to determine who has the rightful claim to the party.
