On June 5, 2020, Eliud Kipchoge, the renowned marathon world record-holder, announced a partnership with England's Tottenham Hotspurs football club.

As part of the deal, the club will help organize a global virtual marathon, open to all Spurs fans worldwide.

"MA RA TH ON, a free-to-enter virtual team relay, allows runners to register in teams of four or as individuals and be placed in another group of three," the club explained.

During the relay, each runner will cover 10.5km between June 6, 2020, at 12:01am and June 7, 2020, at 11:59pm.

Runners will log into a running app, and their team will be placed on a virtual leaderboard to compare their performance with the world's best.

The event will feature representatives from England, Netherlands, South Africa, USA, and Canada, all wearing their club colours.

Legendary former player David Howells, a 1991 FA Cup winner, will also participate in the race.

In a tweet, Kipchoge welcomed the idea and encouraged more fans to participate, saying, "A football club is a family, players and fans together. On the weekend we will all run as one, good luck to all fans of Tottenham Hotspurs."
