Kenya has recorded 134 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections to 2,474 as of June 5, 2020.

According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, the new cases were confirmed from 1,337 samples tested across the country since Thursday.

Of the new cases, 3 are foreigners and 131 are Kenyans, Dr. Mwangangi said during a news conference.

"It is essential to note that collective effort in combating this pandemic requires each member of society to partner with us," Dr. Mwangangi emphasized.

The highest number of cases was recorded in Mombasa with 67 cases, followed by Nairobi with 31 cases.

"We are aggregating this data to inform people that the disease is now in our communities," Dr. Mwangangi explained.

Kenya has also seen a significant increase in recoveries, with 643 patients discharged after testing negative, including 51 patients discharged on June 5.

"We appreciate and express gratitude to all health workers who have dedicated themselves to combating coronavirus," Dr. Mwangangi said.

One more patient succumbed to the disease, increasing the fatalities to 79.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to provide a way forward for the country on June 6, 2020, regarding the dusk-to-dawn curfew and the cessation of movement in hard-hit counties.
