On June 5, 2020, Kirinyaga County Government received a generous donation of 550 bales of maize flour worth Sh 750,000 from Capwell Industries Ltd. The donation is aimed at supporting vulnerable residents of Kirinyaga County during the challenging times brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Obadiah Gitiye, the company's head of corporate affairs, they are targeting at least 10 counties in the country to benefit from the food donation. So far, they have successfully distributed the food to four counties, with Kirinyaga being one of them.
Speaking during the donation ceremony, Gitiye said, "We are beneficiaries of raw materials from Kirinyaga County, thus we decided to come and give back to the society by giving flour." He added that the company had previously donated Sh 20 million to the National Covid response team and was now giving additional 550 bales of maize flour to each of the ten counties to benefit.
County Executive member for Agriculture Jackline Njogu received the flour on behalf of the Governor and lauded the company's kind gesture. She noted that the donation would go a long way in supporting the vulnerable people in the County, who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, even families who were able to provide for themselves before have now turned vulnerable due to loss of jobs and closure of small businesses," Njogu said. She further stated that the flour was a big boost to the County's efforts in distributing food across all the sub-counties.
