On June 5, 2020, Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo revealed he is considering a return to the Nigerian national team, a year after he quit.

Speaking to local sports radio Brila FM, Ighalo stated, "I am still thinking about returning to the national team."

However, he emphasized his focus on his club career, saying, "But right now, I want to concentrate on my club career."

When asked about his decision to leave the Super Eagles in 2019, Ighalo cited the distance between Nigeria and China as a reason, but now that he is in Manchester, he left the door open for a possible return.

As a top scorer at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with four goals, Ighalo has made a significant impact on the Nigerian national team, scoring 16 goals in 35 appearances since his full international debut in 2015.

He extended his loan spell at Manchester United until January 2021, having joined the club from Shanghai Shenhua in January due to the Covid-19 situation in China.

Playing for Manchester United, a team he has been a lifelong fan of, is a dream come true for Ighalo, who described it as his biggest achievement in his 15-year professional football career.
