On June 5, 2020, the FORD-Kenya party's woes continued to escalate as the faction that ousted Moses Wetangula as party leader re-filed the contested leadership changes at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties in Nairobi.
FORD-Kenya Secretary General Eseli Simiyu alleged that Wetangula's group had resorted to intimidating some members of the National Executive Council (NEC) who backed the leadership changes made on May 31.
Simiyu accused Wetangula of sending threatening messages to party members in an attempt to coerce them into signing affidavits denouncing their support for his ouster.
Wetangula has remained adamant about retaining his position, insisting that his ouster was illegally orchestrated.
He suspended Simiyu and Kanduyi lawmaker Wafula Wamunyinyi from their positions, accusing them of being involved in the party's leadership change.
Political Parties Registrar Anne Nderitu is expected to review statutory documents filed by opposing camps and provide a way forward on who has the rightful claim to the party.
