Published on June 5, 2020, former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has come out in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta's recent shake-up in the Senate and National Assembly.
Speaking to the Daily Nation, Ruto, who is also the leader of the CCM Party, stated that the changes were long overdue, given the undisciplined behavior of some lawmakers.
He pointed out that some Jubilee Members had openly defied the head of state and even gone as far as abusing him in public.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been cracking the whip on the leadership of the Senate and the National Assembly, with several high-profile figures being ousted from their positions.
These include Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nakuru counterpart Susan Kihika, who were fired as Majority leader and Majority Whip in the house, respectively.
Four Senators were also removed from influential house committees, while Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali and his Deputy Cecily Mbarirere were shown the door in the National Assembly.
Additionally, 17 Tanga Tanga MPs have been given a seven-day notice to explain why they should not be dewhipped from Parliamentary Committees.
Ruto believes that the President did the right thing, stating, 'It was in order for Jubilee to crack the whip in the Senate and National Assembly leadership. You cannot be abusive to the leadership that has put you in a position of trust.'
