Published on June 5, 2020, a woman has been charged with obtaining over Sh 62 million from a businessman in a ministry of devolution fake laptop tender.
Mercy Wanja Muriithi, alias Hannah Nyaguthie Murithi, is the second person to be charged over the scam after Gilbert Wachira Kariuki, alias Moris Kariuki, was charged less than a month ago.
The accused, Muriithi, allegedly obtained the money from Hopeland Advertising and Design Limited director, John Ohas Omondi, by falsely pretending she was in a position to award him a tender from the ministry of devolution for the supply of laptops valued at Sh 94,250,000.
Both Muriithi and Kariuki are alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between August 8th and October 29th, 2018, in Nairobi, jointly with others not before the court.
Muriithi is also facing charges of conspiracy to defraud Shilling 62,950,000 from Ohas by falsely claiming they were in a position to award him the said tender.
She denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku and was released on a bond of Sh 500,000 or cash bail of Sh 100,000.
