On June 5, 2020, Eliud Kipchoge, the world record-holder in the marathon, announced a partnership with England Football Club Tottenham Hotspurs.

As part of the deal, the club will help organize a global virtual marathon, open to all Spurs fans worldwide. The virtual team relay, dubbed 'MA RA TH ON,' is free to enter and allows runners to register individually or in teams of four.

During the relay, each runner will cover a distance of 10.5km sometime between June 6, 2020, at 12:01am and June 7, 2020, at 11:59pm. Runners will log into a running app and be placed on a virtual leaderboard to compare their performance with the world's best.

The event will feature representatives from England, Netherlands, South Africa, USA, and Canada, all donning their club colours. Legendary former player David Howells, a 1991 FA Cup winner, will also be involved in the race.

Welcoming the idea, Eliud Kipchoge tweeted, “A football club is a family, players and fans together. On the weekend we will all run as one, good luck to all fans of Tottenham Hotspurs.”
