On June 5, 2020, the ICT Authority announced its plans to host the 2020 Digital Literacy Programme Hackfest (DLP Hackfest), a national innovation competition that aims to encourage young people to develop innovative solutions for the challenges facing the DLP programme.
The hackfest, which has education for the Kenyan child as its theme, is open to individuals, companies, and organizations to demonstrate how they are using technology to improve people's lives. The deadline for submission is June 18, 2020.
Thematic areas for the hackfest include creation and sharing of additional content, cloud platforms, device and content security, inclusivity in education, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for learners and teachers.
The winners of the hackfest will be honored and recognized during the annual Connected Kenya Summit. The ICT Authority also seeks to recognize local entrepreneurs with products and services in the market that solve challenges in these thematic areas through the Connected Innovation awards.
The government initiated the DLP program to integrate technology in the learning environment, transforming teaching and learning in basic and higher education. The program aims to increase national digital literacy levels and revolutionize the country's digital economy.
