On June 5, 2020, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho explained the reasoning behind the curfew imposed to slow the spread of COVID-19.

According to Kibicho, the curfew was placed to reduce movement and slow the spread of the virus, allowing for effective contact tracing to take place.

'This is so that contact tracing can be effective; that need has still not ended. Masks and social distancing must be maintained in order to save lives' - PS Karanja Kibicho.
