Heavy rains and strong winds are forecasted to hit various parts of Kenya from Friday, June 5th, to Tuesday, June 9th, 2020, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Director Stella Aura warned that the rains, which are expected to intensify from Sunday, June 7th, to Tuesday, June 9th, 2020, will be intense, with over 20mm of rainfall in 24 hours.
Residents living in areas prone to landslides, particularly in Western Kenya and other hilly areas, are advised to be cautious and take necessary measures to safeguard their lives and property.
Areas of concern include Trans Nzoia, Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Vihiga, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Nyamira, Kisii, Bomet, West Pokot, Samburu, Turkana, Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Murang’a, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Lamu.
Residents are also advised to avoid driving through or walking in moving water or open fields.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, 285 people have lost their lives following the heavy rains experienced in most parts of the country for the last two months, while 810,655 others have been affected by the floods.
