On June 2, Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali and his Runyenje counterpart Cecily Mbarire were stripped of their lucrative positions during the Parliamentary Group Meeting at Statehouse.

Washiali has since expressed his unwavering support for Deputy President William Ruto, stating that the Majority Whip position is not a matter of life and death.

"The Deputy President has been in my constituency more than five times. He stood by me even in times of grief. Why should I abandon him?" Washiali posed.

His sentiments come after former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa criticized the DP for doing little to protect his foot soldiers, calling him a General who had abandoned his troops.

Washiali countered Echesa, stating that he does not understand how government works and that he is now focusing on bigger things in the future.

"I have my eyes on greater things and will devote much of my time serving Mumias East residents," he added.
