Published on June 5, 2020, a disturbing incident unfolded in Buffalo, New York, where two police officers were suspended without pay after a video captured them shoving a 75-year-old protester.

The protester, who was hospitalized with a head injury, was left motionless on the ground and bleeding from his right ear, according to a video of the incident.

Mayor Byron Brown expressed concern over the episode, stating that the city's police commissioner had ordered an immediate investigation.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York condemned the actions of the officers, saying, “The incident in Buffalo is wholly unjustified and utterly disgraceful. Police officers must enforce — NOT ABUSE — the law.”

Initially, the Police Department reported that the protester had tripped and fallen, but the video evidence contradicted this claim, showing the officers shoving the man.
