Some foods are particularly beneficial for your teeth. Dairy products, such as cheese, milk, and plain yogurt, contain calcium that helps rebuild tooth enamel. Fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, like beans and lettuce, also promote oral health by keeping teeth and gums clean.
Green and black teas contain polyphenols that interact with plaque bacteria, killing them or holding them back. Additionally, foods with fluoride, such as fluoridated drinking water, can help strengthen teeth.
On the other hand, certain foods can cause serious tooth damage. Carbonated soft drinks, with their added sugar and phosphoric and citric acids, wear away tooth enamel. Alcohol and many medicines can also cause mouth dryness, which can be alleviated with fluoride rinses.
Candy and sweets are extremely sugary, sticking to the enamel and causing teeth to wear off if not cleaned regularly.
