On the day of the fatal shooting, Ahmaud Arbery visited a house in the neighborhood that was under construction, a visit he had made numerous times before. According to testimony, there was no evidence that he stole anything during this visit.

Prosecutors also revealed that Arbery had a mental illness that caused him to experience auditory hallucinations, but he was not being treated for this condition on the day of the shooting.

Defense lawyers for the three men charged in Arbery's death argued that the charges against their clients should be dropped, citing a lack of evidence that their clients knew they were acting wrongfully.

State investigators are looking into whether the case was mishandled by the first two district attorneys to handle it, Jackie Johnson of Brunswick and George E. Barnhill of Waycross, Ga.

Andrea Young, executive director of the A.C.L.U. of Georgia, called for the resignation of the two prosecutors, stating that they were 'unfit for their offices.'
