On June 5, 2020, Chelsea made a significant move in the transfer market by offering a lucrative contract to Timo Werner, a 24-year-old German forward from Red Bull Leipzig.

The move comes after Liverpool, who had previously expressed interest in Werner, cooled on their pursuit due to the £50m buy-out clause expiring later in the month.

Chelsea, however, are undeterred by the price tag and are willing to spend big to strengthen their forward line, which is set to lose both Pedro and Willian to free agency this summer.

Werner's agent, Karlheinz Forster, has reportedly held talks with Leipzig, and the club is now preparing to do a deal this summer.

Chelsea's offer is a five-year contract worth £200,000-a-week, making Werner an attractive option for the Blues, who are looking to bolster their squad with a player who can play wide in a front three or through the middle.

This would allow Werner to play alongside Tammy Abraham, providing another option for Chelsea rather than relying on their emerging young England centre forward.

Chelsea's transfer plans also extend beyond Werner, with the club reportedly targeting a left back and midfielder, with Leicester's Ben Chilwell and Ajax's Nicolas Taglifico on their list.
