On April 26, 2020, Penina Wairimu, a 36-year-old mother of three, was last seen alive leaving a night club near Nairobi's Odeon Cinema. Her dismembered body was later found at the Dandora dumpsite, while her other body parts were discovered packed in a sack and dumped along Ladhies road in the city centre.

Through DNA analysis, the police managed to piece together Wairimu's body parts. Her children, aged 12, eight, and six, were left in the care of neighbours, who later handed them over to the Child Welfare officials in Nairobi.

On June 4, 2020, David Migwi, a 42-year-old wedding planner, was arrested for questioning over the murder of Wairimu and another woman, whose body parts were found in Umoja. The police had been investigating the case for over a year, and had identified two street boys who claimed to have been hired to dispose of the body parts.

DCI investigators, led by Chief Adan Guyo, believed that the killings were related and had finally cracked the mystery of the murders. Migwi was presented before a Makadara court, where the court allowed the DCI 14 days to question him and conclude their investigations.
