Published on June 5, 2020, a large billboard in Nyeri County has sparked controversy on social media.

The billboard, which features the portraits of Governor Mutahi Kahiga and area MCA Eric Wamumbi, has been criticized for taking credit for the construction of a latrine at Kahara ECD Centre.

Nyeri Deputy Governor Caroline Karugu has distanced herself from the project, calling it 'cheap publicity stunts' and 'extremely unfortunate and ill-advised.'

Locals have also taken issue with the standard of the latrine, saying it's narrowly constructed and that the board could cost more than the latrine itself.

However, Chinga Ward representative Kiruga Thuku defended the erection of project signage across the county, saying it was meant to ensure contractors deliver quality work.

The online backlash comes after Governor Kahiga faced a branding storm for branding sanitisers donated by well-wishers with his image, using Sh100, 000 of public funds.
