Published on June 4, 2020, a Nairobi County Assembly member has been accused of land fraud.
Peter Anyule Imwatok, the minority whip, allegedly obtained Sh 2,190,000 from Fresky Jepchirchir Bett by claiming he could sell her a parcel of land in Nairobi.
However, Imwatok knew the claim was false, and he used it to defraud Bett between February 1st and October 31st, 2017.
Imwatok was arrested on Wednesday night under a warrant of arrest issued on March 4th for failing to appear in court.
He denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot and pleaded for lenient cash bail, citing that he was not a flight risk.
The court granted him a cash bail of Sh 200,000.
Imwatok is also facing charges of being in possession of a firearm and ammunition without a certificate.
He allegedly had a Ceska gun on September 10th, 2017, at Galito's restaurant in the Industrial Area of Nairobi.
