On June 4, 2020, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula suffered a significant setback after the Registrar of Political Parties, Anne Nderitu, nullified the decision to take disciplinary action against two MPs for misconduct.

The move was a result of a meeting chaired by Senator Wetang'ula, where the party's Parliamentary Group and national executive suspended secretary-general Eseli Simiyu and Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi for gross violation of the party's constitution.

The two MPs were accused of orchestrating an unsuccessful coup against the party's leadership.

However, Registrar Nderitu declared that the meeting that suspended the duo was not properly convened and lacked a quorum.

She also noted that Senator Wetang'ula's team failed to submit the statutory form PP7, used to notify the registrar of changes in party officials.

This ruling means that Senator Wetang'ula will have to call another NEC and PG to ratify the changes before resubmitting them.

Despite this setback, Senator Wetang'ula's group claimed that they were still in control of the party.

On the other hand, Mr. Simiyu's team stated that the registrar only asked them to rectify a small anomaly, a missing signature, in the PP7 form they had filed.
