Published on June 4, 2020, by Daily Nation, Kavengi Kitonga's story is one of passion and exploration. A visual artist, researcher, and make-up artist, she has found a unique balance between her creative and academic pursuits.
Kitonga's journey into economics was accidental, but it ultimately led her to discover her love for research. 'Research is almost like preparing a defense, only that the audience is a journal paper,' she explains. Her artistic side, however, was always present, and she eventually found her calling in make-up after campus.
With a strict routine that includes one hour of makeup practice and one hour of theory, Kitonga is driven to understand everything about make-up. Her goal is to transition from make-up application to visual artistry, and her brand, Edgy Bold, reflects her fearless approach to art.
When asked about the Kenyan make-up application industry, Kitonga notes that while it is developing well, there is still room to integrate various forms of make-up beyond beauty and body art. On the topic of the curfew and violence, she believes that everyone has the right to speak on anything they want, and that artists should not be afraid to comment on such issues.
