On June 4, 2020, a Nairobi court made a landmark ruling in favor of former Sports CS Rashid Echesa, ordering the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to return two pistols and a Range Rover vehicle that were seized from him in February 2020.
According to court documents, Echesa had filed an urgent application in Milimani court, stating that the confiscation of his firearm and vehicle had exposed him to security risks and subjected him to embarrassment.
Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot granted Echesa's plea, noting that the confiscation of the firearm was in contravention of a ruling delivered by the High Court and that the firearms were not related to the charges he was facing.
“I find that and hold that the applicant is entitled to own the firearms and to also enjoy his motor vehicle,” ruled the Magistrate.
The court directed that the pistols be returned to Echesa together with the Ceska magazine and ammunition.
