On June 4, 2020, Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot granted former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa's request to recover his Range Rover vehicle and two pistols from police custody.

The items had been in custody since February, and Echesa had expressed concerns about contracting COVID-19 while traveling in public means to visit the police station.

Cheruiyot ruled that the firearms were not related to the charges Echesa faces in a Sh40 billion military equipment fraud case.

"I find that and hold the applicant is entitled to possess the firearm and to also enjoy this motor vehicle," Cheruiyot stated.

Echesa's Range Rover and pistols will be returned to him pending the outcome of the fraud case.
