On June 4, 2020, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced a new measure to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Kenya.
Speaking at Afya House, CS Kagwe stated that people who escape from quarantine facilities will have their pictures and details published in local newspapers to alert the public.
He cited a case where an individual, whose movements were being traced, left their phone at Kawangware and traveled to and from Thika town.
“When you put your phone down, we even have somebody who went with the phone and because they know we are tracing them leaves the phone somewhere,” Mr Kagwe said.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Health has the right to publish photographs in the newspaper and inform the public about individuals who have run away from quarantine facilities.
CS Kagwe also mentioned that six individuals in Turkana had run away from a quarantine facility but had been found.
