Meghan Markle's Heartfelt Speech on George Floyd's Life ¶
On a significant day in history, Meghan Markle delivered a heartfelt speech that resonated with many. The speech was a poignant reminder of the importance of compassion and using one's voice to create change.
Markle began by sharing a personal anecdote from her childhood, when her teacher told her to always put others' needs before her own fears. She recalled how those words stuck with her throughout her life and how they have become even more relevant in recent times.
She spoke about the LA riots in 1992, which were triggered by a senseless act of racism. Markle remembered being about 11 years old at the time and witnessing the chaos firsthand. She recalled seeing smoke billow out of buildings, men in vans holding rifles, and a curfew in place.
Markle expressed her sorrow that teenagers today would have to experience a different version of the same reality. She emphasized that this should be understood as a history lesson, not as a reality that they should have to face.
She added, 'I'm sorry that in a way we have not got the world to a place that you deserve it to be.'
Markle also spoke about the importance of people coming together in times of crisis. She noted that people and communities are standing in solidarity to 'uplift' and that the students can be part of 'rebuilding.'
She urged people to lead with compassion and use their voice in a stronger way than ever by voting. Markle emphasized that 'black lives matter' and that she is proud to call the pupils fellow alumni.
She concluded by wishing the students a huge congratulations on the start of their impact in the world as leaders.
