On May 22, a 42-year-old Kenyan woman who had traveled to Uganda for work tested positive for Covid-19 at a health facility in Amudat town. She was isolated and taken to Moroto Hospital for treatment, but managed to escape.
According to West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello, the woman has a history of mental health issues and a drinking problem. She was reportedly seen buying items at the market in Lokiimo village, Amudat town, two days after testing positive.
Okello stated that the woman's samples were taken and confirmed to be Covid-19 positive. He also revealed that she had traveled to her place of work over the weekend and was arrested at Amudat market in Uganda on May 22.
The county commissioner has launched a search for the woman, urging residents of West Pokot County to be on high alert and report any sightings of the suspect to the authorities.
Okello has also called on the Ugandan authorities to explain the circumstances surrounding the woman's escape from the quarantine centre.
