June 4, 2020, marked a turning point in the life of Kelvin Cheruiyot, a young man from Kenya who had been struggling to make ends meet after his mother abandoned him and his siblings due to their father's heavy drinking and irresponsibility.
Thanks to a kind neighbour who donated a seedling farm, Kelvin was able to turn his life around. He took up the challenge seriously, and the profits from the seedlings enabled him to pay school fees for his siblings and even buy a cow.
But that was not all - Kelvin's hard work and commitment also allowed him to purchase a motorcycle, which has augmented his earnings. He has now become a role model for his community, and his story is a testament to the power of determination and hard work.
Dr. Henry Rotich, the neighbour who donated the seedling farm, was instrumental in Kelvin's success. He said that when their mother deserted them, he knew their survival depended on his actions, and he chose to be their Good Samaritan.
Dr. Rotich's actions were inspired by the President's speech during Madaraka day, which asked Kenyans to dream big. He is glad that he has contributed to the survival and rejuvenation of four young men, who required assistance.
However, Dr. Rotich also cautioned the younger generation to ensure that their characteristics were not built on a shaky foundation, such as drinking, stealing, and recklessness. He appealed to leaders and philanthropists to extend a helping hand to the younger generation, but to do so in a way that empowers them to take control of their lives.
