Francis Atwoli, Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu), has clarified his stance on Deputy President William Ruto, stating that their differences are ideological. Speaking on a local radio station on Monday, Mr. Atwoli emphasized that he has no personal differences with the Deputy President.

Mr. Atwoli, who has been a vocal critic of the Deputy President, particularly in regards to his 2022 presidential bid, expressed his willingness to put aside their differences and engage in a cordial relationship. He noted that, as a Kenyan, Deputy President Ruto is entitled to welcome him to his home and vice versa.

However, Mr. Atwoli attributed the woes faced by the Deputy President's allies in Jubilee to his premature 2022 succession politics. He pointed out that the removal of Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Meru Senator Kithure Kindiki, and Nakuru's Susan Kihika from their key parliamentary positions was long overdue but should not be seen as targeting specific leaders.

Mr. Atwoli also welcomed the ongoing coalitions and mergers of political parties ahead of the 2022 elections, which he believed would stabilize the country and boost the economy. He emphasized the importance of good politics in creating a conducive working environment for workers.

On the Building Bridges Initiative, Mr. Atwoli warned those opposed to it to do so at their own peril, stating that the amendment of the Constitution is unstoppable. He also called for the disbandment of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, citing its alleged violation of workers' rights.

Mr. Atwoli's comments come as the government has announced an elaborate economic recovery plan, which he lauded as a positive step towards stabilizing the country.
