As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the world, the Pan Africa Christian University has announced a pay cut for its staff effective May to August 2020.
According to a memo issued by Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Muthwili, the pandemic has significantly impacted the institution's revenue collection, necessitating the pay cut.
Under the new arrangement, administrative staff who are not able to join in the teaching staff in May-August, trimester will be assigned a minimum workload and paid 20% of their salary each month in this period.
The unpaid April 2020 salaries, however, will be deferred for further review as normalcy returns, while all part of the salary that remains unpaid for May through August 2020 will not be considered for deferral.
Every member of staff will be required to sign an acceptance letter, and the intervention will be reviewed continuously.
The university has also suspended the recruitment of new staff until the end of December 2020 and payment of leave allowance until further notice.
This move follows similar announcements by other private and public universities, including the University of Nairobi, which has requested staff to decide on a voluntary pay cut.
