On May 25, 2020, a Kenyan woman in the US narrowly escaped death after her husband stabbed her 17 times in a domestic quarrel. Elizabeth Chege, who is currently recovering in hospital, recounted the harrowing incident to local media.

According to Chege, her husband Christopher Mburu, 53, attacked her with a knife while their two daughters, Melissa and Faith, slept in the house. The daughters were woken up by their mother's cries for help and called the police.

After stabbing Chege multiple times, Mburu fled the scene in his car. However, he crashed the vehicle in the woods, and it caught fire. Mburu succumbed to his injuries, but Chege is in stable condition at the hospital.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise funds for Chege and her three children as she recovers from the severe injuries she suffered in the attack.
