On May 24, 2020, Ethiopia reported its highest daily increase in Covid-19 cases, with 88 new infections confirmed, bringing the total number of cases to 582.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Health stated that all 88 new cases were Ethiopian nationals, with 51 males and 37 females, aged between 8 and 75 years.

Of the 88 new cases, 13 had a travel history from abroad, 20 had contact with known confirmed cases, and the remaining 55 had no travel history from abroad and no prior contact with known confirmed cases.

According to the Ministry of Health, 152 patients who tested positive for Covid-19 have recovered from the virus, while five patients have died due to Covid-19 related illnesses.

As Africa's second most populous nation, with approximately 107 million people, Ethiopia has taken measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, including a five-month state of emergency announced by the Ethiopian House of People's Representatives in April.
