Published on May 25, 2020, a report by The Standard revealed that over 25,000 people in Taita-Taveta had benefited from relief supplies donated by the Taita-Taveta Covid-19 Resource Mobilisation team.

However, Members of County Assembly (MCAs) protested that some wards, including Mahoo, Mboghoni, Challa, Werugha, and Mwanda-Mgange, had been left out in the distribution exercise.

Majority Leader Jason Tuja and Minority Leader Ronald Sagurani, along with MCAs Anselim Mwadime, Jones Maskuji, and Jackson Mwagharo, questioned the report tabled in the House, stating that it did not indicate the names of the beneficiaries.

“We are not convinced. The response is half-baked,” stated Werugha Ward Rep Jason Tuja.

Responding to the concerns, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Executive Davis Mwangoma explained that the food donations included cereals and vegetable oil, among other items.

Dr Mwangoma stated that verification was done through a technological application with assistance from the Kenya Red Cross, working closely with local leaders such as chiefs while observing social distancing.
