On Saturday evening, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the house of late Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei in Villa Franca Estate, Imara Daima, Nairobi. This visit was part of the ongoing investigation into Kenei's murder, which is believed to be linked to a fake arms deal involving former Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.

According to residents, the detectives spent the better part of the night at the house, adding to the numerous visits they have made to the residence in the course of the investigation. The visit comes after a lull in the probe, which was occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

DCI boss George Kinoti refused to comment on the new developments, saying only that the probe is ongoing and that the public should wait for the outcomes. However, Nyumba Kumi Chairman of Villa Franca Twiga Court Peter Amunga reported that Kinoti was present at the scene, although he did not see him alight from his car.

The house has been under guard since the body of the officer was found on February 20. The detectives have been working to establish the circumstances surrounding Kenei's death, which they believe was staged as a suicide. They have concluded that the data on Kenei's mobile phone was intentionally flushed out and reset to factory settings, leaving little to rely on to trace the people he last spoke to before he was killed.

It is alleged that Kenei was summoned to facilitate the entry of former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and two foreigners into the Office of the Deputy President on the day of the fake arms deal. The DCI has been investigating the circumstances surrounding the deal, which was valued at Sh39.5 billion.
